1950-1970's Limoges France Fragonard Dresser Box
#AD205:
This is a beautiful, large mid 20th century vintage porcelain trinket dish signed by Fragonard in the center. Jean Honoré Nicolas Fragonard 1732-1806 was a prolific Rococo French artist known for his scenes of romance, love and and an early eroticism for the era. He produced over 550 paintings and died at age 74 in Paris, France. Famously, his works have been reproduced on French porcelain ever since.
This is a mid 20th century powder box, trinket or dresser box in the style of art nouveau with a portrait of 2 of Fragonard's classic "lovers." It is clearly signed and made in Limoges, France with a circular mark with the letter G in a pottery vase icon. Around the edges of this mark are the stamped words "Authentique Limoges." It measures 4.5 inches in diameter, and is green, gold gilded and white with rich transferware colours.
