George III Silver Serving Spoon, Eley & Fearn 1807
Here we have a very good quality George III Sterling Silver Serving Spoon in the traditional Old English pattern. There is a ghost of an initial at the top of the stem but it has been almost completely rubbed away over the course of time and is no longer identifiable.
The spoon is made in London by William Eley & William Fearn and dates to 1807. Eley & Fearn were members of a group of four closely connected families: Eley, Fearn, Smith & Chawner, who dominated the flatware market in England in the 19th century and whose names always guarantee good quality.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and only the superficial surface wear that you would expect after well over 200 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The serving spoon is 21.9cm / 8.6ins long and weighs a very substantial 67.3g / 2.37oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the under side of the stem are well struck and remain very clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crowned leopard\'s head assay mark for London, the date letter M for 1807, the George III duty mark and the WE over WF makers\' mark for William Eley & William Fearn.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
