Pair Of Crystoleoms
Superb pair of Crystoleoms depicting super cute children at play from the fabulous Victorian era. These fantastic paintings are made by painting on fine bowed glass panels set in beautifully carved original gilt frames. To be expected with all antiques there are some imperfections, but these only add to the character and charm of these very attractive and decorative items.
The crystoleum process was a method of applying colour to an albumen print, popular from c. 1880 – c. 1910. An albumen print was pasted face down to the inside of a concave piece of glass. Once the adhesive was dry, the paper backing of the print was rubbed away, leaving only the transparent emulsion on the glass. The image was then coloured by hand, using oil paints.
Dimensions
Height = 37 cm (14.6")
Width = 30 cm (11.8")
Depth = 3 cm (1.2") All measurements are done to the widest point .
