A very attractive sterling silver Siam niello powder compact c. 1940. The lid shows & finely engraved Phra Samut Chedi, also known as Phra Chedi Klang Nam) or The Floating Pagoda.Phra Samut Chedi is a world famous temple pagoda building in Thailand, in the Phra Samut Chedi District) which floats on water. The base is decorated with the minutely observed Dancing Angel – depicted with a long curved garland held behind the back. The whole piece is in excellent condition. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The mirror is good & gives an excellent reflection - it has a couple of age spots but nothing that would spoil the enjoyment of this beautiful niello ware vanity. A charming compact in very good condition. The compact is engraved ' STERLING SIAM'. The reflective nature of the lid makes it difficult to photograph. In person it is much more attractive & the engraving on the silver outstandingly beautiful. This vintage Siam niello compact mirror measures 6.8 cm & weighs 66.2 grams.
