18th George III Painting Hunt & Hounds ByThomas Hand
This oil painting dating around 1780-1800 has much appeal which stems from its charming and slightly primitive portrayal of a fox hunt in full cry.

The frame bears a plaque attributing the painting to Thomas Hand (1770-1804 )

Thomas Hand was an English painter who was known as a follower and imitator of George Morland. He died in London in September 1804.

Hand exhibited a landscape with the Incorporated Society of Artists in 1790. From 1792 to 1804, he occasionally exhibited at the Royal Academy.
Some of his pictures were close enough to Morland's manner to have been misattributed.

There is a label adhered to the reverse suggesting this painting may have passed through Ackermanns, the highly regarded London gallery specialising in sporting art.

We have not tried to verify these attributions and connections, but what we can say with a high degree of certainty, is that this is a very appealing George III period oil on canvas in good conserved condition, and it is housed in a 19th Century gilded frame which has wear and some discolouration of the gilt work.

Returns are accepted within 14 days of receipt if the item is found to have been misdescribed and the purchaser may be liable for the return costs subject to reasons for return.
