19th C. Dutch Silver Teaspoons + Sugar Spoon, 1876
This is an elegant set of six 19th Century Dutch 833 Silver Teaspoons plus a matching Sugar Spoon. The spoons have high arched stems with threading along the sides and engraved scroll decoration on the upper portion. The bowl of the sugar spoon is in the distinctive Dutch style with a scalloped rim and a central channel. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The spoons were made in Schoonhoven in The Netherlands by silversmith Adrianus Kuijlenburg and date to 1876. Adrianus Kuijlenburg established his firm in the Dutch silver city of Schoonhoven in 1862 and seems to have primarily produced flatware. After the death of Adrianus in 1882 the business was continued by his widow until 1893. The original Kuijlenburg mark is AK over 47 and the mark of his widow has a star before the 47.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 145 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each teaspoon is 12.7cm / 5ins long with the sugar spoon being 12.5cm / 4.9ins long. The set of seven spoons all together weighs in at a very respectable 85.5g / 3oz of solid silver.
The hallmarks are split between the underside of the stem and the inside of the bowl. They show the lion passant over the number 2 for 833/1000 grade silver, the Minerva head with letter M assay mark for Schoonhoven, the date letter r for 1876 and the AK over 47 mark for Adrianus Kuijlenburg.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the spoons.
