19th Century Pollard Oak Desk by JAS Shoolbred
For sale is a very good quality Pollard Oak Writing Table by J Shoolbred & Co. The top of the writing table has a swan neck pediment to the back, above several pigeon holes in the centre, flanked by a drawer on either side. Below this the desk a quarter veneered top above two long drawers, with four legs below joined by a stretcher base, standing on original castors. There is one small piece missing from one of the pigeon holes, but other than this the whole piece is in a lovely original condition and has a fabulous patina.
Antique antique furniture by James Shoolbred and Co. (Jas Shoolbred)
James Shoolbred & Co or also knows as Jas Shoolbred was established in the 1820’s as a draper’s shop, at Tottenham Court Road, London. The company first began supplying textiles to the furniture trade. By the 1860’s, the company began designing, manufacturing and selling its own high quality furniture in their thriving and fashionable furniture shop. By the 1880’s, Jas Shoolbred had expanded to such an extent that the business had to move to larger premises, becoming one of the first large department stores in London, who would supply quality antique furniture and accessories for the Victorian home. The furniture was displayed in a series of catalogues that the company produced every year with their new and impressive designs. James Shoolbred’s furniture was always displayed and photographed alongside the textiles, carpets and other accessories that the company sold, creating an example interior design for customers to view. Jas Shoolbred was granted a Royal warrant by the mid-1880s and theirVictorian furniture was of the best quality available of the late Victorian period. Unfortunately, as with most great Victorian designers and furniture makers, James Shoolbred & Co didn’t survive the financial crisis of the late 1920’s and ceased trading in 1931 FB Antiques, long standing members of LAPADA (London and Provincial Antique Dealers Association), has been established since 1960 in London and had three shops supplying the home and overseas trade. We relocated from London 30 years ago to Rayleigh in Essex, to a 40,000 sqft warehouse from which we shipped approximately 120 containers a year. 5 years ago we downsized to our storage premises in Rettendon Essex, and now operate from our 15,000 sqft showroom and workshops, still supplying home and overseas trade as well as many members of the general public.
We pride ourselves on pricing our furniture at competitive prices. We are only 30 miles from London and are open 7 days a week for viewing. We are always willing to do a deal with the client and will try and assist in any way possible.

RESTORATION
In our workshops we restore, make and hand polish furniture as well as refurbishing antique home and commercial bars built to size using as much antique timber as possible. For example, a front and back bar could range from anywhere between 6ft to 25ft+. All bars can be made to size and there are many different models including corner bars, canted corner bars, canopy bars and front and back bars.
DELIVERY
If you need the an item delivered to the UK or overseas this can be arranged on your behalf. When enquiring, please quote your postcode and address in order for us to get a firm quote for shipment. Standard delivery is carried out by a one man independent courier service.
RETURNS
If for some reason when you receive your item you are not satisfied then we will offer a full refund for the item and will allow a two week period to notify us that you wish to return the item. When the item is returned it must arrive at our premises in the same condition as it left. Please note once you have let us know that you would like to return an item, you have two weeks from that day to ensure that the item has been returned to our premises. The buyer is responsible for return carriage fees.
