2 x Arts & Crafts Silver Vases, Wm Aitken, 1910
Here we have a striking Pair of Arts & Crafts Sterling Silver Spill Vases. The vases have domed circular bases, which are weighted for stability, tapered stems in a planished finish and wavy rimmed trumpet tops.
The vases were made in Birmingham by silversmith William Aitken and date to 1910. William Aitken founded his firm in Vyse Street in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter in the late 1880s. He produced a wide range of silverware for both domestic and personal use and had pieces assayed in both Birmingham and Chester. He remained in business into the early 1920s.
Overall condition is good with just a couple of shallow bruises to the stems and a slight misshaping of the top rims. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each vase is 18.9cm / 7.4ins high and 7.4cm / 2.9ins in diameter across the top rim. The pair together weigh in at 393.8g / 13.9oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the bases.
The hallmarks, on the upper sides of the bases, are somewhat rubbed but can still be read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter l for 1910 and the W.A makers' mark for William Aitken.
Shipping in the UK is £12 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the vases.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
