Here we have a good quality pair of George III Sterling Silver Dessert Spoons in the classic Old English pattern. The spoons have the initials JER well engraved in a Gothic style at the top of the stems.

The spoons are made in London by William Eley & William Fearn and date to 1806. Eley & Fearn were part of a group of four families: Eley, Fearn, Smith & Chawner who were connected through partnerships, marriages and apprenticeships and dominated spoon making in the late 18th and first half of the 19th centuries in England. Flatware from this important group of families is always of good quality.

Condition of the dessert spoons is good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 215 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The spoons are each 17.3cm / 6.8ins long and the pair together weigh a substantial 76.8g / 2.7oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the underside of the stems are well struck and very clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crowned leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter L for 1806, the George III duty mark and the WE over WF makers' mark for William Eley & William Fearn.
