A draughtsman's original pen and ink drawing of a railway carriage dating to the 1890s and housed within its original frame The drawing displays a railway carriage of the Great Eastern Railway. The carriage is a gas-lit, six-wheeled, 1st class/3rd class brake composite carriage, the toilet compartment serving the first class compartments only. There is a cap covering the gas light in the toilet compartment is offset from the centreline of the carriage. It is carrying a roofboard for the "North Country Continental" boat train which ran from Harwich, Parkeston Quay, to York, via the Great Northern & Great Eastern Joint Railway. The Scarborough destination was introduced after 1892 when a running powers agreement was made between the GER and the North Eastern Railway. Only a single carriage went to Scarborough.
