A Superb Pair of Elm & Ash Country Chairs
A superb pair of elm and ash side chairs with spindle backs and rush seats dating from about 1760.This pair of chairs are typical in style of the North West of England. The turned uprights are generous in proportion and of simple straight form, as are the stretchers and spindles. This 'chubbiness' gives a homely, country appeal to the chairs and allows the beautiful grain and patination to come through.
The chairs are in good condition, there is a small split around the stretcher on one chair, but this has not affected the stability of the chair. The rush seats are in good order on both chairs and the chairs stand solidly with no wobbles.
This charming pair of English county chairs are ready to place in the home and would add country style to any interior.
