Antique Fern Engraved Revolving Breakfast Dish
A magnificent Victorian revolving breakfast dish by Furber and Son of Cheltenham.
The frame is beautifully decorated in the form of wooden logs and the domed top lavishly engraved with Ferns tied each side with a ribbon and bow, very Victorian and very English. Inside the ferns is a very regal looking Armorial crest of a Lion.
The key to the front of a chain is used to keep the the domed lid securely shut and removed when used When the knob at the front is pushed back the dome revolves to reveal the two original shallow trays. These are perfect on a buffet to serve either hot (with hot water beneath) or cold (with crushed ice below) dishes a very impressive addition to any occasion.
This was clearly a very special example in it's day with no less than three design registration diamond shaped lozenge marks allowing us to date it accurately, this design dating to 4th May 1870.
Made from English silver plate, this remains in superb condition with old knife marks to internal lower dish, insignificant but mentioned for accuracy.
13 1/2" handle to handle x 8" x 7 1/2" tall.
