It's so rare to find a novelty inkwell in the form of a Hare, I have only had one before several years ago.

Beautifully hand carved in the Black Forest region of Switzerland in the late Victorian era, around 1880. The Hare stands on an oval base with a brass beaded border.

The hinged lid opens to reveal the removable ceramic ink chamber making it easy to re-fill with ink and to clean.

Retaining his original two glass eyes, this superb and scarce piece remains in excellent condition. 5" x 3 5/8" x 6 1/4" tall.
