Antique Rockford half hunter pocket watch. 1902
Antique Rockford half hunter pocket watch. 1902
The watch has a nice quality 11 jewel stem-winding movement, grade 590 which was produced in relatively low numbers, which is working well. The movement is signed and it has the serial number 601558 which dates it back to 1902. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover. The Inside of the inner cover has some surface scratching.
The watch measures 50.6mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 10 ct gold filled and is the Moon model made by the Dennison Watch Case Company. The case is in nice condition with only light marking from general use. The front cover has a small central lens surrounded by enamel filled Roman numerals. The case is also stamped American Waltham Watch Company although there is no evidence that the movement has been changed ( perhaps a mix up in the factory when the watch was assembled as Dennison also made cases for Waltham).
The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover.
Inside, the glass lens is in nice condition (some reflection showing in the photos).
The dial has a couple of very faint hairline cracks between 3 and 4 but otherwise it is in nice condition with blued steel hands, including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.
The Rockford Watch Company began manufacture in 1873 with equipment purchased from the Cornwell Watch Company, and their first watch was made available in 1876. Their factory was built in Rockford. Rockford watches were quite popular with railroad men and the company aimed a high percentage of their advertising towards them. The company had financial problems in 1896, and after reorganisation the name was changed to Rockford Watch Co Ltd. They finally closed their doors in 1915. Rockford produced a relatively small number of good quality watches, and as such they are quite collectable.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE.
Please contact us for international shipping prices.
The Vintage Wrist Watch Company operates on a Delivery Duty Unpaid (DDU) basis which means that the international buyer is responsible for any import duties, taxes & customs which may be necessary to release an order from international customs. Tax and import duty varies from country to country so we recommend you check with your local tax office to see if any fees will be payable. If the customer refuses to pay any duty and customs charges and the parcel is returned to sender all shipping and associated charges will be deducted from any refund.
Due to Customs regulations, we are unable to send watches / precious metals to certain countries. If you are unsure about your country’s regulations, please contact us and we can check for you. Any orders from prohibited countries will be refunded, less any Paypal fees which are non-refundable.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
