Art Deco Silver Tea Strainer, Sanders & Mackenzie
Here we have a stylish Art Deco Sterling Silver Tea Strainer from just after the Second World War. The strainer is round with an oak leaf handle and rest which both have engine turned decoration. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The tea strainer is made in Birmingham by Sanders & Mackenzie and dates to 1948. Ernest Sanders & Henry Mackenzie began their partnership in around 1910 making a wide range of household, table and personal items, with the firm remaining in business up until around 1980.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 70 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The tea strainer is 12.2cm / 4.8ins from rest to handle, 6.1cm / 2.4ins in diameter across the bowl and stands 2.1cm / 0.8ins high. It weighs in at a respectable 30.1g / 1.06oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the bowl are crisp and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter Y for 1948 and the S & M makers' mark for Sanders & Mackenzie.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
