Art Nouveau Silver Plate Bowl, WMF / WEPCO
Here we have an elegant Art Nouveau or Jugendstil Silver Plated Two Handled Bowl with its original green glass liner. Jugendstil was the German version of Art Nouveau and had a slightly more angular style that was influential on the later Art Deco movement.
The bowl is made by world famous metalware company WMF in Germany as part of their WEPCO range and dates to around 1900-1920. WEPCO stands for Wurttemberg Electroplate Company and was the trade name used by WMF in the early 20th century for their exports to English speaking countries, Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF) being considered too German for international sales.
Condition of the bowl is extremely good with no dings or dents and no plate loss. The green glass liner is also in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. This has obviously been well looked after for the last 100 years or more. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bowl stands 11.5cm / 4.5ins high, is 17cm / 6.7ins from handle to handle and 10.2cm / 4ins in diameter across the top rim. It weighs 328.6g / 11.6oz.
The underside of the base is marked WEPCO and EP NS showing that it is a WMF piece made for export and is in electroplated nickel silver, ie silver plate.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the bowl.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
