Arts & Crafts Silver Spoon, Hukin & Heath, 1912
Here we have a George V Sterling Silver long stemmed spoon in the Arts & Crafts style. The Arts & Crafts movement flourished in Britain between around 1880 and 1920. It was a reaction against the mass production techniques that dominated the later 19th century and indeed ever since. One of the elements of Arts & Crafts was looking back to old medieval styles and this spoon is very much in this category with its small bowl which is crimped where it joins the long straight stem.
The spoon is made by renowned silversmiths Hukin & Heath, who are best known for their association with the great designer Dr Christopher Dresser in the 1870s & 1880s. The spoon is made in Birmingham and dates to 1912.
Condition is good with no dings or dents, a slight scuffing in the bowl and only the superficial surface wear that is to be expected after over 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 13.7cm / 5.35" long and weighs a respectable 16.1g / 0.57oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are crisp and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "n" for 1912 and the distinctive H&H makers' mark for Hukin & Heath.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
