Brass Desk Magnifying Glass / Paperweight c.1920
Always very popular and a very useful desk-top accessory, this one is rather special having the makers mark on it for The Strand Electric and Engineering Company (Seecol, London) which is rarely the case on these lenses.
The Strand Electric and Engineering Company was founded in 1914 by Arthur Earnshaw and Philip Sheridan, who were both working as electricians in the heart of London's theatre land.
These large circular magnifiers actually are the condenser or magnifier from a Magic Lantern dating to around 1910 they are rescued, polished up and put back to use in the modern day.
Professionally cleaned and polished, the brass gleaming, restored to it's former glory.
Wonderful condition, with a good magnification and a hefty piece to keep those papers in place. 4 1/2" in diameter x 2 1/4" high the glass lens having a diameter measuring 3 1/4".
