Brynmawr 1930s Art Deco Oak Chest of 4 Drawers Brynmawr Chest of Drawers Oak %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Super oak chest of drawers from the workshops of the Brynmawr Furniture Company in South Wales C1930. Paul Matt, the son of a cabinet maker who had been apprenticed to his father for three years came to Brynmawr as leader of the local unemployed persons clubs, was the instigator for the company. A trained designer and a man of vision and energy, he saw an opportunity of combining one of his ideas with the creation of new products. The company ceased trading in 1940.

You have got to admire the simple “Deco” lines on this one, those black long handles, the simple oversailing top, the black base as well as the wrap-around design on the drawers. Many like this were commissioned by Aberdare Hall, a ladies only college, part of Cardiff University.

Condition wise it’s highly original. We have lovely wear to those black handles, the oak is aging well and we have marks and slight age splits to the top – nothing new or nasty. Pretty much untouched apart from a dust over and vacuum. Now ready to place – smells fine!

Such a wonderful looking and seldom seen piece of Welsh 1930s oak antique furniture.
