A very typically Art Deco serving dish by Carlton Ware that dates to the late 1930s. Carlton Ware was the brand name of Wiltshaw & Robinson. The company was founded in 1890 and Carlton Ware first produced in 1893. The company remained in the control of the Wiltshaw family up until the mid-1960s.

Like so many Carlton Ware designs, this pattern doesn't have a name, just numbers. The shape is No.1608, oval scalloped dish, and the pattern is No.4157, plain: pale pink with gold handles. It all seems a rather functional way to describe a very striking Art Deco serving dish! This particular combination of shape and pattern was produced between 1937 and 1939, so it is very much of the period. It is a very decorative piece but also completely practical for modern use.

The dish is 26cm long, 16cm across, 3.8cm high to the rim and 5cm high to the top of the handle. Condition is good with no chips or cracks and just very slight rubbing of the gold trim in one or two places around the rim. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
