Chinese yellow ground posy vase - Tongzhi
Small Chinese porcelain vase finely painted with magpies and cherry blossom on a yellow ground. There is a four figure iron red Tongzhi character mark to the base. There is mat gold around the rim and kiln dust on the inside base and on the foot rim - very typical of the Tongzhi period.
Cherry blossoms have a deep symbolic meaning in Chinese culture - representing love and the female mystique of strength, sexuality and beauty. The magpie symbolises good luck and happiness.
Good condition.
Size: height 9 cm.
