Circa 1860 Minton Parian Ribbon Jug Ceramics Parian Ware Minton %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A further example of a rare shape and pattern Parian jug from the Minton factory. Mid 19th century decorated Parian bottle Jugs /ewers by Minton are represented in the V&A collection (see Lismore Jug). This model reflects perfectly the smooth marble like texture Parian was intended to be and the decoration is in the Minton palette of apple green and orange with gold. (Parian-ware is unglazed porcelain developed in the first quarter of C19th to imitate marble and it took its name from the pure white marble of the Greek island of Paros. Decorated Parian is much less common, fully decorated items even rarer.)

This example has the double ribbon handle which is identifiable as a Minton pattern but is unmarked to the underside (Note: the model has been offered in the past with the unique Minton impressed ciphers which does help to identify the maker). This is an immaculate example of a double ribbon handle decorated in the neo classical style Parian bottle jug /ewer. The decoration is excellent with only minor wear to the applied gilded frieze, the combined decoration produces a subtle and stylish finish to these jugs. There are no faults, no repairs.

Size: overall height to top of handle 21.5 cm and diameter of belly 15 cm (sizes approx)
