Here we have a wonderful original solid Elm cupboard c1700. As you can see the cupboard has super colour and patina. This has always been a cupboard and never a bureau. It has also always been constructed in this way and not adapted from something else. The top has super grain with revealed dove tail joints at either end. The slope front is made from one plank of Elm with outstanding grain and colour. There is applied moulding to the edge which is also replicated on the faux drawer fronts. There is a central door which opens to reveal a base and single shelf to the interior. The upper part internally is an open void. The back boards have been replaced probably in the 19th century. It is possible however that there were no backboards as I have seen similar cupboards used as plate waming cupboards. The cupboard would make for useful storage space and being in the form of a bureau it is not to deep so would fit a hallway nicely. A super piece of period Elm in great retail condition ready for your home. The dimensions are approx 39 inches wide 43 high and 20 deep.
