Dutch Silver Serving Set, H. Hooijkaas, 1967/68
A very high quality Mid-Century Dutch 835 Silver serving spoon and fork set. These are large, heavy pieces that are ideal for serving at the dinner table.
The spoon and fork set are made by the famous Dutch silversmiths H.Hooijkaas of Schoonhoven and date to 1967 for the fork and 1968 for the spoon. H.Hooijkaas was founded by Herbert Hooijkaas in 1874 in the Netherlands "zilverstad" ("silver town") of Schoonhoven. They are particularly well known for their high quality cutlery and flatware.
Condition on these serving pieces is generally good with no dings, dents or damage. They have some minimal surface scratching, which is only to be expected after over 50 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
These are very substantial serving pieces with the spoon being 23.9cm long and weighing 101.0g and the fork being 24.7cm long and weighing 83.9g, so 184.9g in total for the set.
The Dutch silver hallmarking system is long established and very reliable. The marks on these pieces are well struck and very clear to read. They show the lion passant above the roman numeral II for 835 silver, the Minerva head with the letter M on the helmet for the assay office in Schoonhoven, the makers' mark H.H for H. Hooijkaas and the date letters "h" for 1967 on the fork and "i" for 1968 on the spoon.
