Early 20th C. Silver Plate Cake Stand, c.1920s/30s
This is a good quality early 20th century Silver Plated 3 Tier Cake Stand. The stand is arched and rests on four curled feet. There are three removable circular plates, one of which is engraved in a Gothic style with Thorley's Special Prize.
Thorley's were very successful agricultural suppliers from their late 19th century up until the early 1950s, particularly well known for the high quality cattle feed. In order to promote their products they supplied a variety of different competition prizes to be awarded at agricultural shows up and down the country. These were almost invariably silver plate and made by the renowned firm Atkin Brothers of Sheffield.
Condition of the cake stand is very good, with no dings, dents or plate loss and just a bit of a back to front rock on a flat surface plus the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 80-100 years of farmhouse teas! Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The cake stand is 36.5cm / 14.4ins high, 28cm / 11ins across the bottom feet and 18.8cm / 7.4ins from front to back. Each plate is 16cm / 6.3ins in diameter. All together it weighs in at 1.34kg / 47.2oz.
The underside of each plate and the underside of the stand are all marked with the Atkin Brothers trade mark of a hand clasping three ostrich feathers and the initials HA, EA & FA for Harry, Edward and Frank Atkin of Atkin Brothers.
This is a large item to send. UK shipping is £8 by Evri (Hermes) Tracked & Signed Courier.
