An early eighteenth century Delft ewer or wine jug with minimal Delft frittng. Visible in one of the pictures is a tiny firing fault where a tiny bubble of air or lightweight impurity burst out at some stage during the firing procedure. There is wear to the glaze on the handle where for the first one or two hundred years of its life it had a pewter lid which was held on with a strap around the handle. Operated by a thumbpiece to lift the lid in the manner of a German beer stein.
