Edwardian Silver Plate Milk Jug, J.H. Potter
Here we have a very good quality Edwardian Silver Plated Milk Jug in traditional style. The jug stands on four decorative paw feet. Above these the body widens out to a bulbous upper part with bar decoration. The upper rim and spout have a scalloped edge and there is a decorative scrollwork handle. It is a very elegant jug of good size that would grace any cream tea or dining table.
The jug is made by John Henry Potter of Sheffield and is in A1 quality electroplate. J.H. Potter founded his firm in 1884 in Rockingham Street, Sheffield and quickly became established as makers of good quality silver plate. The firm became J.H. Potter & Sons in 1925 but struggled in the late 1930s and stopped trading around 1950.
Condition is good with no dings or dents and only the superficial surface wear you would expect after over 100 years of use. There is some marking to the inside floor of the jug. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The jug stands 12.5cm / 5" high to the top of the handle and is 12cm / 4.75" long from spout to handle, whilst the body is 7.6cm / 3" wide.
The marks on the underside of the body show J.H. Potter, Sheffield in a wide shield shape, EPNS A1 for best A1 quality electroplated nickel silver (ie. silver plate) and a small logo of two figures inside a shield that the company used in the early 20th century.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
