English Silver Card Case, J Willmore c1820 sterling silver card case %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A very nice English Sterling Silver card Case made by Joseph Willmore.
The bottom of the case hallmarked with the maker's mark JW for Joseph Willmore, the Monarch's Head duty mark and the Lion Passant sterling silver mark. No date letter or town mark, however Joseph Willmore is recorded as using this mark in Birmingham from 1797. The Monarch's Head indicating it is pre Victorian, therefore the case dates from 1797 to 1836.
The case has very nice engine turned engraving to both front and rear with plain silver sides.
A lovely card case in very nice condition, with only some very minor indents at the corner.
It measures 95mm x 70mm x 9mm. The weight is 82.2g.
