Fine Georgian rosewood brass inlaid tea caddy Georgian rosewood regency %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A fine quality and very interesting Georgian tea caddy which is dated 1818 making it exactly 200 years old. The caddy is in well figured rosewood which is line inlaid with brass to the edges and also framing the crossbanding which is in another exotic wood. The caddy has a flower shaped brass escutcheon, and on the lid has a handle which has been inscribed with a monogram and the date. The whole is in good untouched condition with a good colour and patina. The interior is original and features one fitted caddy for tea and then has a vacant aperture. These apertures are usually for glass mixing bowls which are often missing, but as there was only one type of tea kept in this caddy it may have been for a sugar container. The inside of the lid has the original lining paper which is rather beautifully framed by crossbanding in timber that has kept it's original colour. The caddy has a working key and lock. The whole is an excellent and fine example of a Georgian tea caddy.
