George II Oak and Elm Crossbanded Chest on Stand
A really good and substantial oak chest on stand, the drawers crossbanded with elm. The stand and chest original and with pine lined drawers. The handles are 18th century hand cast solid brass and are replacements for the original single drop handles - these have been on the chest for most of its life. Upper case lifts off the stand for transport. Of excellent proportions, this handsome example is practical for daily use having substantial weight bearing drawers.
Attractively shaped moulded apron at front and sides. Condition is very good for age. Some old worm to the back of the chest, long since treated and dead. The variations in colour which appear on the photographs are natural shading in the elm and change with the direction of the light. Legs have been re-tipped in 19th century in oak and in exactly correct style for the period and reflected in our price. An early English chest still with its original stand - so many stands have been lost and such chests frequently put on bun or bracket feet.
A lovely early 18th Century piece at a small price.
Dimensions are
58 inches high, 50 inches wide, and 26 inches deep (maximum).
The internal heights of the drawers are top 3.25 inches, second 4.5 inches, third 7 inches, fourth 7.5 inches and of the stand are 3 inches to centre and 4 inches to flanks.
For metric please multiply by 2.5
I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
