George III Silver Salt Spoon, Thomas Streetin 1799
This is a good quality George III Sterling Silver Salt Spoon in the classic Old English pattern. The spoon has the letter E elegantly engraved at the top of the stem.
The salt spoon was made in London by silversmith Thomas Streetin and dates to 1799. Thomas Streetin registered his first mark at Goldsmith’s Hall in London in 1794. He primarily made flatware alongside tea and coffee service pieces, always very well crafted. He remained in business until at least 1830 and possibly later, a long career that reflected the quality of his work.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no salt corrosion and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 225 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The salt spoon is 10.2cm / 4ins long and weighs in at 8.3g / 0.29oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the London date letter D for 1799, the George III duty mark and the T S in an oval makers' mark for Thomas Streetin.
