George V Silver Mustard Spoon, Chester, 1911
This is a good quality George V Sterling Silver Mustard Spoon in the classic Old English pattern. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The mustard spoon was made by Barker Brothers Silverware and assayed in Chester in 1911. Founded in 1801 by Mary Barker, the firm became Barker Brothers in 1886 when Mary's grandsons were in control. They were based in Birmingham but also had pieces assayed in Chester and London. They were very successful silversmiths and electroplaters and remained in business up until 1992.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 110 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 9cm / 3.5ins long and weighs in at 7.8g / 0.28g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the bowl, are a little rubbed but can still be read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword and three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the date letter L for 1911 and the HEB over FEB makers' mark for Herbert Edward Barker and Frank Ernest Barker of Barker Brothers Silverware.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
