A wonderful and highly decorative late eighteenth century standish or inkstand made from English Sheffield plate (silver on copper).

Standing on four elegant legs, the base has a pierced or reticulated gallery and each holder for the inkwells with a complimentary design. The two original inkwells fit perfectly.

There is a central storage compartment for sealing wax, seal, nibs etc. topped by a handled chamberstick ready to melt the sealing wax and create light for writing.

Excellent condition, measuring 9" x 5 1/2" x 4 3/4" at tallest.
