Good Regency Lady's workbox hall stand sewing
This piece is superb. In the trade, when we find a piece like this, we describe it as having 'good bones' which means it is well made and the proportions are exquisite. It is all of that. The small Lady's work box/table is Regency, dating to around 1820 - 1830 or so. It is made in mahogany and the mahogany has that golden colour you can only find in period mahogany antiques.
The work table has a drawer with original turned handles and beneath is a slide box for storing sewing accoutrements. The box is upholstered in a pleated satin material which is old but so right for the piece that you wouldn't want to replace it.
The work table stands on legs with acanthus carved detailing to the base and carved shaped feet terminating in original casters.
This is a beautiful piece. No sign of damage or repair or worm. It is beautiful and is as crisp as you could want in a period piece.
The table will happily sit in any principal room or hallway and will look good with a lamp on top to illuminate the mahogany.
The Lady's work box is 24 inches wide and 18 inches deep and 27 inches high.
