Harris Lebus Stacking Bookcase in 6 Sections
A wonderful piece for a book enthusiast, this early 20th century piece could also be used as a display cabinet at the top, where there are two glazed fronted sections, and for storage below. The glazed sections, and the two solid wood fronted sections below, have lift up fronts which slide into the top to provide internal access, and all sections are stacking separates, so that they can be moved around easily and rearranged. The top shelf has a curved back and side sections which mean that larger books can be shelved there.
Harris Lebus was a successful antique furniture maker, with its origins in the late 19th century and trading into the 1960s. By the 1890’s it had become the largest furniture manufacturer in England and continued trading in London through the difficult post-war years by responding to the changing styles and demands of the times.
Dating to circa 1910, this is made of oak and glass, and originates from England.
In good age related condition, this has only the usual small marks which would be expected from use over time. The key is available, although it is a little stiff to use in some of the locks.
