High Quality George II Mahogany Side Chair c. 1740
A really beautiful English side chair c. 1740 with well proportioned and completely original frame, the curved splat was a very difficult element to carve and demonstrates a skilled maker. This is a high quality detail as are the ring turned stretchers. One unites the lovely cabriole front legs which terminate in large and well shaped pad feet. Two stretchers with repeat turnings span each side and the blocked and turned back legs are co-joined by a further well shaped stretcher.
In excellent condition for age, really sturdy with no weak or loose joints. Original timbers throughout and the drop in seat pad newly re-upholstered in a heavyweight pure silk.
Comfortable, heavy and sturdy. A beautiful hand made solid mahogany chair which has been well cared for and used for more than 270 years and which has many more centuries of good solid service to offer.
The mahogany has developed a most attractive rich and dark colour. It is an extremely dense timber and the frame has a deep natural patina.
Would make a very stylish and practical desk chair and the fabric really suits the chair, gold threaded silk with a sheen and colour which are really attractive.
Dimensions are:
22 inches wide, 22 inches deep, 37.5 inches high.
Floor to seat is 18 inches.
For metric please multiply by 2.5 I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
