James I Vellum Obligation Bond 1619
James I, Vellum Obligation Bond between Robert Brate and Sir Edward More. The obligation was in the sum of £209 and was formally bound to Sir Anthony Dering of Surrenden Dering, Pluckley in the county of Kent. The document is hand written and has the very fine seal of Sir Edward, displaying a swan within a shield. The document is dated 1619 following settlement of the Debt. We have been unable to find any other date on the Bond, but Sir Edward died in 1602.
The Bond was formally in the collection of Rev. J H Bloom (1860-1944) Antiquary, Genealogist & Author.
Sir Edward More,(1529-1602) resided at Mellefont Abbey, Louth, Ireland. Was Sheriff of Louth in 1571, Knighted in 1579 and Privy Councillor in 1589. The More family is a very old and established English/Irish family.
Sir Anthony Dering (1561-1636) was the Duty Lieutenant to London and a Knight. The Dering family are proported to be the descendants of St. Oswald, King of Northumbria (660). The Dering name first appeared in a document in the year 880.
Both Sir Edward and Sir Anthony were prominent advisors/ adminstators to the Tudor Royal Family.
