Late 19th Century mahogany twin pedestal desk
This is a handsome English mahogany desk of 9 drawers in fine, original, used condition, dating from the end of the 19th Century.
The top with a three quarter gallery is of solid mahogany with the original waxed surface bearing the hallmarks of its past life with ink and water stains as well as having been faded by the sun.
The drawer fronts are of solid mahogany with birch or similar native hardwood drawer linings and cedar drawer bottoms. The brass ring-pull handles are original to the piece and all are in perfect condition. All drawers are fitted with locks but no key is present. The dovetail joints are particularly fine. The top right drawer is stamped with the number 34594.
The pedestals stand on plinths and roll on castors for ease of maneuvering. However, the item does not break down into 3 pieces as some desks do, so please bear this in mind if the space where you wish to place the desk is difficult to access.
The desk possesses the original pine backboards.
