Magnificent Lancashire Longcase Clock John Wignall Hesketh longcase %%alt5%%
A magnificent oak and burr walnut longcase clock by John Wignall of Ormskirk Lancashire. This piece features an eight-day mechanical movement which has been fully serviced and is in full working condition. The dial is white with black Roman numerals and features a Dutch landscape scene in each of the four corners of the dial. There is also a separate sub-seconds dial just below the 12 o'clock position. The hands are beautifully pierced and gilded. The date wheel at 6 o'clock is for decorative purposes only. The case is predominately made of English oak with some fine sections of burr walnut banding throughout the case. Quite unusually the case has a very wide mid section which also has the door to gain access to the pendulum and weights. circa 1810 This antique clock was previously owned by Sir Thomas Dalrymple Hesketh, 3rd Baronet (1777–1842) of Rufford Old Hall, Lancashire
