Masons Ironstone Tankard Japan Basket Pattern
For your consideration this rare and impressive early English Masons ironstone tankard. I have not seen another Mason's tankard of this large size before.
The tankard has a dolphin loop handle and is decorated in the highly collected, Imari Japan basket Pattern, having a lot of hand-painted enamelling in light and dark cobalt blue, burnt orange and green to the handle, making it individual, as no two mugs are painted alike. The base has a wide blue printed MASONS mark, crown and banner, dating it to circa 1820, the very earliest period, as Masons Ironstone only started in 1813.
Measurements: Height - 12 cm/Diameter - 12.5 cm
Condition
Exceptional condition considering the age and use. No chips, cracks or hairlines. Some surface wear but all commensurate with age and use.
The photos can probably provide the clearest representation of condition so please examine these carefully.
