Outstanding and RARE design continental, probably French early 19th century gilded bronze ink stand. Basically square base with fretted gallery and inset red lacquer panel. The piece stands on very nice lovely shape turned and reeded type feet. There is a round beaded mould around the edge inside. The round shape ink pot in the middle has a lift off lid with a seated squirrel on the top. At the corners of the base at the front there are stylised monkey heads.

This piece is of outstanding quality and most unusual with the monkeys and squirrels on the same piece. The lacquer panel is basically in good order but does have a couple of repaired cracks. The gilding is almost all in tact.
