Pair of Georgian English Silver Entree Dishes
A very good quality, impressive pair of heavy, Georgian English Sterling Silver Entree Dishes made in London by Robert Garrard and dating from c1825.
The famous firm, Garrard & Co was established in London in 1735 and hold the Royal Warrant as suppliers to the British Royal Family, their relationship with the Royal Family stretching back to 1843 when Garrard was appointed the first official crown jeweller.
These dishes are of superb quality, made from very heavy gauge silver, the total weight is a massive 4.037 Kg.
They are hallmarked with the maker's mark "RG" for Robert Garrard, (Panton Street, London), the Monarch's Head duty mark, the Lion Passant sterling silver mark, the Leopard's Head London town mark and date letter "i" for 1824/25. Also stamped to the base "Garrards, Panton Street, London".
They have an impressive Heraldic coat of arms with the motto "Mon Devorato Serpente". Obviously, these dished would have been originally owned by an extremely wealthy family.
These dishes are in excellent condition with surface scratches consistent with minimal normal use.
They measure approximately 11 1/2" x 9" x 2 1/2" inches (290 x 230 x 65mm), excluding handle. The total weight 4.037 Kg.
A very impressive pair of of English sterling silver entree dishes with an excellent pedigree. An excellent addition to any collection and it would be very hard to find a better pair.
