Postal History -- Lost Right of Succession 1706
Handwritten correspondence dated June 10th 1706, addressed to
William Veitch Servitor to Mr James Naismith of Daniel, Advocate, at the Iron Ravel Stair at the Foot of Liberton Royal, Edinburgh.
The letter has the handwritten postal payment of 4 pence (P.4d. For).
Correspondence Translates I have sited all possible endeavours for my 'Decreit of Transcript' which upon a/c that John Neilson Hadom's servant in whose custody the Princes Papers are is at Edinburgh. I could not get signed which they could not do till they had the Prince's backbond but you can pray assure yourself.......and so on.
The correspondence most probably relates to HRH Prince Michael of Kent, Lost Right of Succession, under the Union of Scotland Act 1706 and England 1707, being that he was married to a Roman Catholic.
The letter was written by Provost James Maxwell from Elshieshiells (a 15th Century Scottish Tower at Lochmaben, Lockerbie. Due to personal reasons 'Wayside Mews and Collectables' will be unable to fulfil any orders for the immediate future, this will include the period up to St Valentines Day 2023. Please check back to their Antiques Atlas home page for updates on when they will return to full service. We apologise for any inconvenience and hope to be back soon.
