Rare Metamec Sunburst Vintage 60s Brass Wall Clock
1960s Metamec Sunburst Clock
This wonderful mid century antique clock has all the glamour and theatre of Art Deco Hollywood. This large 'landscape' example of the Sunburst antique clock, by British manufacturer Metamec, is a more difficult to find version than the standard round sunburst antique clocks, and makes a fantastic focal point. It has a white painted round face with classic mid century modern numerals in black plastic edged with gold. The original brass hands are simple and stylish, and the glass is concave. However the really spectacular feature is the 16 brass rays which emanate from the dial the horizontal rays are longer than the vertical. At 87cm from tip to tip, this is an impressive and beautiful antique clock.
The clock has been cleaned and is in good vintage condition. The brass rays have been cleaned but not polished to retain the vintage look of the clock. There are some marks to the brass on the bottom 3 rays under the number 6 but these do not detract from the overall appearance (see close up photograph). There is some flaking of the paint around the edge of the face, particularly around the 7, but this is minor and stable. The original movement has been replaced with a modern quartz movement which takes an AA battery. There is a hanging loop on the rear.
