Here for sale is a stunning George III original condition Salt box dial antique clock signed William Grayson Henley-on-Thames. This clock is a great example of the quality of the craftsman ship of William Grayson. He is also listed in the 1854 directory in the Watch and Clock Makers section still at Bell Street, Henley-on-Thames. He also appears at this address in 1852, 1856 and 1860 in polling directories.
William Grayson, watch and clockmaker, was born in Middlesex in about 1797 son of William Grayson clock and watchmaker.
There are 2 marriages listed - to Jane Walls on the 23rd April 1838 with his father William Grayson, watchmaker present, at St Mary, Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire and to Jane Watts on the 22nd April 1839 at St Mary, Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire.
William is listed as having repaired the Henley church clock from 1830 onwards for an annual fee of £5 5s 0d until about 1860.
The 11.3/4 silvered dial is in outstanding condition with finely scolloped blued steal hands fronting a 8 day single fusee verge movement that is equally clean and in fantastic condition. Having been serviced and tested for a minimum of 2 weeks. The overall dimensions of the clock are 15 inchs wide 20 inchs tall to the back board 6 inchs deep. The case maintains its originality and has a beautiful finish the case has only been cleaned and given a coat of was to preserve its own finish. I would welcome any interested parties to come and view the clock to see how nice it really is in the flesh.
