A GOOD SET OF FOUR, STERLING SILVER COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS, THE RAILWAYS ACT 1921,
A very good quality, Limited Edition, set of four commemorative sterling silver medals, produced by Overton Farrell & Sons (Medallists) Ltd., in order to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of The Royal Assent being given to the Railways Act 1921.
These medals were struck in sterling silver, each medal having full English sterling silver hallmarks on the edge the maker's mark "WJD" for William James Dingley (of Warstone Lane, Birmingham), the Lion passant sterling silver mark, the "anchor" Birmingham town mark and date letter "W" for 1971/72. Also on the edge of the medal is stamped the set number (S564) to match the accompanying certificate.
Each medal representing a different rail company The London and North Eastern Railway Company (LNER), London Midland & Scottish Railway Company (LMS), Great Western Railway Company (GWR) and The Southern Railway Company. The reverse depicting a famous locomotive.
Each medal measures approximately 45mm in diameter and the weight is approximately 32.0g.
The set is contained in the originally supplied fitted case from Overton Farrell & Sons (Medallists) Ltd. It is complete with the original certificate of ownership confirming the silver set is number S564 and is one of a limited edition of 1,000 sets.
