Silver Jubilee Plated Guernsey Jug, Mappin & Webb
This is a good quality Silver Plated Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Guernsey Milk Jug. Guernsey jugs, originally made of copper, were used for centuries in the Channel Islands to hold and transport the rich creamy milk associated with Jersey cattle. With the rise of tourism in the 20th century they became common souvenirs and were produced simply for this purpose.
This milk jug, a 1 pint size, is made in Silver Plate either by or for world famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb. It is engraved with the Royal Crown, the E II R cipher and the dates 1952-77 to commemorate the Queen's Silver Jubilee in that year.
Condition is very good with no dings, dents or plate loss. It appears to have some but very limited use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The milk jug is a 1 pint size. It stands 11.5cm / 4.5ins high to the top of the handle and is 9.2cm / 3.6ins in diameter at its widest part. It weighs in at 215.2g / 7.6oz.
The underside of the base is stamped Mappin & Webb and E.P.C.A for electroplated copper alloy, ie silver plate.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
