Silver Novelty Jersey Milk / Cream Jug, 1901.
A charming sterling silver novelty Jersey Milk / Cream jug, hallmarked for Birmingham, 1901. Retailed stamp 'London Jewellers & Silversmiths Co Jersey' to the base. The maker's mark is rubbed but an 'A' remains visible - note this jug is likely made by Abraham Meyer Blanckensee, a silversmith known to be making novelty jugs in this exact design in Birmingham c.1900. The known Blackensee's jugs were also retailed by the London Jewellers & Silversmith Co.
The jug has a pull-off lid which reveals a silver gilt interior. There is some light wear commensurate with age but generally the jug remains in a very good condition overall.
