Silver Plated 4 Egg Cup Cruet, Deykin & Harrison
Here we have a very stylish early 20th century Silver Plated Egg Cruet with 4 settings. The stand has a quatrefoil base on bun feet with a central stem rising to a heart shaped handle which holds the four spoons.
The egg cruet is made by the firm of Deykin & Harrison in Birmingham and dates to the 1920s/30s. It is part of their Venetian Plate range. The Deykin family started the company back in the 1780s as specialist button makers but moved into electroplating in the middle of the 19th century. In 1895 William Deykin was joined in partnership by Walter Harrison and the firm remained as Deykin & Harrison until the business ceased trading in the late 1930s.
Condition is good with no dings or dents and just a very small amount of plate loss on one corner of the stand and at the very bottom of the egg cups. It remains a very attractive and usable item. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The base is 11.5cm / 4.5ins square and it stands 15.5cm / 6.1ins high to the top of the handle. It weighs in at 434g / 15.3oz.
The spoons and the base are all marked on the underside of the stems with the Prince of Wales feathers, the Gondola trade mark and the D & H in circles mark which were the trademarks of Deykin & Harrison's Venetian Plate. In addition the underside of the base is stamped EPNS and has the product number 2374.
