Silver Wedding / Christening Gifts Compact
Rare Scandinavian Sterling Silver Compact 25th / Silver Wedding Anniversary Gift
This is a very beautiful & rare sterling silver powder compact made c.1950. This delightful compact mirror is fully hallmarked silver with Scandinavian marks & a hint of mystery. This vanity is hallmarked as .830 silver when in fact high grade (sterling) silver is what was used. In the past Scandinavian silversmiths would use .830 silver & then when they started to use high grade .925 silver they would hallmark the silver items as .830 as this would mean they did not have to pay the tariff at the assay office for high grade silver items! The lid & base have engine turned designs of tiny diamond shapes. The lid has a very stylish decoration of flowers & foliage - a diamond cut design. All clasps & hinges work perfectly.
The beveled mirror is excellent & gives a very good reflection. The powder well is protected by a clean white plastic insert. The base has a push button detail which helps to push out solid pans of powder from the powder well once the old pan is empty. The compact is hallmarked .830 & the maker's mark is present too. The whole piece is in excellent condition.
This vintage solid silver compact measures 3 1/4" & weighs 112.9 grams.
